Defeating Big Names, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Controls Premium EV Market In China For The January-July Period
JAKARTA The premium electric vehicle (EV) market in China at prices above 500,000 yuan or above Rp1.1 billion shows interesting dynamics throughout the period January to July 2025. Based on latest sales data from Yiche, quoted from ChinaEVHome, Wednesday, August 20, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra managed to top the list of best-selling cars, outperforming its competitors from established producers and newcomers.
Since its launch on February 27, 2025, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has recorded impressive sales of 12,618 units. This achievement is astonishing, considering that this car managed to surpass its annual sales target of 10,000 units in less than five months. This success places SU7 Ultra as the dominant player in the luxury EV segment, even ahead of premium sedan models with any type of engine.
Then, in early June, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra also managed to score a record as the fastest production electric car at the legendary N\"ourburgring circuit in Germany.
Closest Competitors And Rank Changes
In second place, Li Auto MEGA follows with sales of 9,144 units, recording a significant increase of 33.3 percent on an annual basis (YoY). This pure electricity MPV, which is priced at between 530,000 560,000 yuan, targets the family vehicle segment.
Meanwhile, NIO ET9 is in third place with sales of 2,305 units. Even though the price has reached nearly 800,000 yuan, sales remain stable, indicating good acceptance in the high-end market.
The competition map in this segment also shows several shifts. The Porsche Macan BEV is just below NIO ET9, but with a fairly large sales difference, only selling 853 units. On the other hand, the Tesla Model X experienced a sharp decline, dropping to tenth place with a 46.8 percent decline in sales compared to the previous year.

Challenges Of Traditional Brands And Newcomers
Although models from traditional luxury brands like BMW i5 show a significant increase in sales (141 units, up 90.5 percent on an annual basis, they are still struggling to compete with the sales volume of new EV brands.
Models from other brands of newcomers such as ZEEEKR 001 FR and HiPhi Z/X are also recorded as only making single-digit sales, which show tight competition in this very specific segment. This strengthens the position of Xiaomi SU7 Ultra as a market leader who is not only successful in terms of volume, but is also able to strengthen its dominance in the premium EV segment.
