President Steinmeier Invites President Prabowo To Visit Berlin, Foreign Minister Sugiono: Close Partnership Award

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono assessed that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier's invitation to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited Germany as an award for the close sign of the partnership between the two countries.

This was said by Foreign Minister Sugiono after a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the German Federation Johann Wadephul at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta, Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said Indonesia welcomed and thanked the German President for the invitation to President Prabowo. He hopes that the visit can be realized in the second half of this year.

"This invitation is a form of special appreciation, which reflects the close partnership between the two countries," said Foreign Minister Sugiono in a press statement with Foreign Minister Wadephul, Wednesday, August 20.

This visit is the first visit of Foreign Minister Wadephul to Asia since taking office in May 2025. The selection of Indonesia as one of the first destinations reflects the close partnership relationship between the two countries.

In turn, Foreign Minister Wadephul appreciated President Prabowo's willingness to fulfill President Steinmeier's invitation to visit Berlin.

"This will be a great honor for us," said Foreign Minister Wadephul.

Foreign Minister Wadephul also assessed that Indonesia is the third largest democracy in the world with rapid growth, getting stronger and having an important role in the international arena. This makes Indonesia a key partner for Germany and the European Union.
