PSI Rejects Pramono's Discourse On Opening Ragunan At Night: Disrupts Animal Welfare
JAKARTA - Member of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Justin Adrian expressed his rejection of the discourse of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung who wanted to open the Ragunan Wildlife Park (TMR) at night.
The discourse of opening Ragunan until the evening is indeed seen as attractive in terms of tourism. However, according to Justin, this has the potential to disrupt the sustainability of the habitat of the animals there.
"We at the PSI faction actually emphasized that the zoo is different from just a recreation room, there are living things that we need to maintain our welfare.
"If this idea is forced, the risk will actually interfere with the welfare of existing animals," Justin told reporters, Wednesday, August 20.
Justin views that with the addition of time until the evening, the DKI Provincial Government must also increase the budget even greater, both for human resources, improve visitor facilities, lighting to supervise visitors in Ragunan.
The opening of Ragunan at night, continued Justin, could also cause new problems in terms of security to the cleanliness of the zoo environment.
"Don't let visitors open until the evening but the facilities there are inadequate and the animals there are disturbed and even harm the DKI Provincial Government," said Justin.
Justin also criticized Pramono's statement that he thought Ragunan could open at night by looking at the zoo in Singapore. According to him, the Singapore zoo does have many nocturnal animals that are indeed active at night.
"Meanwhile, Ragunan only has around 2,000 2,200 animals with an area of 127 hectares, meaning that the area of the daguanan area also indicates the burden that must be borne in ensuring the safety of animals and visitors," he explained.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted that the plan to open the Ragunan Wildlife Park can be visited at night is still being discussed at this time. The DKI Provincial Government is still detailing the mechanism for Ragunan's operation at night.
"Of course not all animals can be found at night. For that, it will definitely be arranged," said Pramono at the Jakarta International Velodrome, East Jakarta, Tuesday, August 19.
Although it needs careful preparation, Pramono believes that the opening of Ragunan at night can be carried out. This is because many countries have applied it, such as Singapore, Korea, to Japan.
"If it is later opened, Ragunan will have an area of 127 hectares, compared to Singapore, which is only 28 hectares, then almost 5 times. Singapore can do it, it can also be opened at night," said Pramono.

If Ragunan's night tour is operated, Pramono believes that Jakarta residents no longer need to travel to zoos at long distances like Safari Park.
"The place is better than Safari. Even closer and people don't need to stick to the top. So, thus making choices for Jakarta residents to enjoy it more and more," said Pramono.
