Good News From The Jayapura Regent, In 2026 All Children Receive Scholarships

SENTANI - The Regency Government (Pemkab) of Jayapura, Papua Province, ensures that all school children in the area get scholarships starting in 2026. This program is a right that must be fulfilled to support the future of the younger generation.

Jayapura Regent Yunus Wonda said that so far many children have not been touched by scholarship programs, so access to education is limited.

"Starting 2026, all children must get scholarships, both those who study in Jayapura and those who study in Papua, that is their right," he said when interviewed by media crews in Sentani, Antara, Wednesday, August 20.

According to Yunus, the local government has prepared a special program so that no more children are left behind due to educational costs.

"So far, we are still constrained by the budget, but next year this program will be included in the regional government's priority agenda," he said.

He explained that investment in education is very important so that children in Jayapura Regency are able to compete at the national and global levels.

"We will also involve banking partners and the business world to support the sustainability of scholarships for our children from Jayapura Regency," he said.

He added that collaboration must still be built with all parties, for the success of this program, because it cannot be done if you only rely on the Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD).

"With equitable scholarships, Jayapura children will grow to become a superior generation that brings the region to progress," he said.
