Usyk Has Not Been Given An Extension Of Negotiation Time Against Parker

JAKARTA Oleksandr Usyk has not been given an extension of time to negotiate a mandatory fight for the WBO heavyweight title against Joseph Parker. The deadline is getting closer.

Usyk, who is the undisputed heavyweight world champion twice, previously sent a letter of application to WBO for a deadline for negotiations against Parker to be extended because he was still injured.

However, the boxing management body confirmed that they had not approved the request. Meanwhile, the 30-day deadline for reaching an agreement with Parker is due to expire this week.

"In connection with the request submitted by Usyk's team, this is being considered by the Championship Committee," said WBO President Gustavo Olivieri, as reported by Sky Sport.

Usyk, 38, holds the status of world champion undisputed for the second time after defeating Daniel Dubois by knockout in the fifth round of last month at Wembley Stadium.

He then received orders from WBO to fight Parker who is a mandatory challenger. The Ukrainian champion was given 30 days from July 24, 2025.

Serhii Lapin as team director of Usyk and CEO Ready to Fight said that the undisputed world champion is currently considering his choice for the next fight while restoring physically after a tough match.

"Just to rest and spend time with his family. Most importantly he has the right to choose his own future and take the time he needs to make that decision," Lapin said.

Prior to the win over Dubois this year, Usyk had two tough fights last year against England champion Tyson Fury, all of whom were determined by winning points in 12 rounds.

The first win over the fighter nicknamed King OfTEN in May 2024 earned him the undisputed world heavyweight champion for the first time since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

The two then boarded the ring again in December 2024 when Usyk had vacated the IBF belt. Unfortunately, Fury's attempt to take revenge for his rival failed again.
