Real Contribution, Iwan Fals Will Receive The Achmad Bakrie XXI Award

JAKARTA - Virgiawan Listanto or better known as Iwan Fals was lined up as one of the award recipients at the 2025 Achmad Bakrie XXI Award event.

Musicians who have a myriad of iconic songs were selected for art and culture, where many of their musical compositions and lyrics are considered to have become a reflection of the voice of the public's heart.

Iwan Fals' works for five decades are considered monumental works that capture the social reality of society and are able to inspire across generations.

Meanwhile, the event initiated by the Bakrie Family is intended as a form of appreciation for the dedication and extraordinary work of Indonesian sons and daughters in various fields, where recipients are considered to have contributed significantly and provided great benefits to the progress of the nation, even the world.

Apart from Iwan Fals, there are four other figures who received awards, namely Muhammad Chatib Basri for social thinking, Adi Rahman Adiwoso for science and technology, Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama for the health sector, and Saparinah Sadli who received special livetime awards.

To determine the award recipient, Aninditha Anestya Bakrie as General Chair of the Organizing Committee for the Award Organizer Achmad Bakrie said the selection process was carried out strictly and independently by a competent jury.

Since the beginning, we have been committed to maintaining the integrity of this award through a rigorous and independent selection process. This year's recipients were selected by a jury consisting of figures with a very diverse scientific background, experience, and expertise from academics, scientists, artists, to public policy practitioners," Ditha said in his statement, Tuesday, August 19.

This diversity of perspective enriches the curation process and ensures that the recipients are truly the people who have consistently made the best contribution to Indonesia's progress," he continued.

Meanwhile, the jury who chose the five award recipients was chaired by Prof. Sofia W. Alisjahbana, with members consisting of Prof. Panut Mulyono, Laksana Tri Handoko, Nong Darol Mahmada, Prof. Fasli Jalal, Jajang C. Noer, M. Tri Andika, and Yose Rizal Damuri.

"Every year, our job is to find figures who not only succeed professionally, but also have a real impact on the wider community," Sofia said.

"The recipients of this year prove that the science, arts and social struggles carried out with integrity and sincerity remain relevant in building the nation's future," he added.

Meanwhile, the awarding night for the Achmad Bakrie XXI Award will be held on Wednesday, August 27.
