Tottenham Muak With Racial Harassment Pointed At Mathies Tel
Tottenham Hotspur is fed up after striker Mathies Tel received racial abuse on social media. The incident came after Spurs' defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup, Thursday, August 14, 2025 WIB.
Tel missed a penalty in a penalty shootout, which cost Tottenham a 3-4 loss after losing 2-0 in stoppage time to a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
The player of the U-21 French National Team, whose loan period from Bayern Munich was permanent with a transfer value of 30 million pounds in June 2025, became the target of harassment after his shot went wide.
"We are fed up with the racial abuse Mathies Tel received on social media after losing in the UEFA Super Cup."

"Mathys shows the courage and determination to go forward and take penalties. However, those who harass him are just coward--hidden behind usernames and anonymous profiles to express their disgusting views."
"We will work closely with authorities and social media platforms to take the strongest possible action against anyone we can identify. We support you, Mathhys," Tottenham Hotspur said in a statement.
Richarlison also shared support for Tel and emphasized that something must change following the latest incidents of racism on social media.
"Win or lose, wrong or right, it's all part of the game. Racism is not!"
"Tel is still young, a great player at the start of his journey and doesn't deserve this, just like everyone else."
"This behavior is no longer a place. I hope these people (if they can be called) are severely punished!!"
"It's very easy to hide behind social media profiles spreading hatred and speech like this. Something has to change! We support you, Tel!" Richarlison wrote on X.
Racial harassment is a problem that continues to repeat itself and so on in England. Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is even annoyed.
He even encouraged severe penalties so that there would be a deterrent effect. In fact, Rooney also hopes football stakeholders around the world to be more serious about dealing with racial abuse.
