Polemic Of Royalties For National Anthem Sung By The Indonesian National Team, Chairman Of PSSI Coordination With The Minister Of Law And Human Rights
JAKARTA - The General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir, said that he had coordinated with the Minister of Law (Menhum), Supratman Andi Agtas, regarding the polemic of royalties for national and national anthems that were often sung by the Indonesian national team ahead of the match.
Erick Thohir emphasized the federation's commitment to always support the Government's policies regarding copyright protection and song use, such as Tanah Airku which is often sung by supporters and players of the Indonesian national team.
From a discussion with the Minister of Law and Human Rights, the chairman of PSSI said that national songs had become public domains. However, PSSI also plans to meet Mrs. Sud's family as the songwriter of Tanah Airku.
"God willing, in the next few moments we and the Minister of Law will meet Mrs. Sud's family. We want to pay tribute to her work which is so eternal, as well as remind that songwriter heroes also have a big contribution that should not be forgotten," said Erick Thohir in a statement quoted on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.

Erick Thohir emphasized that PSSI did not turn a blind eye to the use of commercial songs in supporting the Indonesian national team and football activities.
This coordination is considered important so that national football runs in line with regulations, while respecting the work of musicians.
"For example, when PSSI collaborated with God Bless to perform the song Rumah Kita. It was all done in a clear process, we directly involved the owner of the work. You see, I believe, songwriters must get proper appreciation," he said.
According to Erick, the use of national anthems and national songs at stadiums not only presents euphoria, but also strengthens the sense of unity. If it involves commercial songs, PSSI will continue to respect the copyright and applicable procedures.
"When players sing my homeland on the field, the euphoria is extraordinary. Some even shed tears."
"Songs like this are not just entertainment, but become a unifying of the nation. Therefore, we must carry out the mechanism of its use properly and proportionally," said Erick.
