Defending Bayindir Amazed After Blunders In Manchester United's Defeat

Ruben Amorim dismissed the notion that he needed a new goalkeeper in the last weeks of the transfer market even though Altay Bayindir's mistake in harming Manchester United against Arsenal in the opening week of the 2025/2026 Premier League.

The babyndir was chosen to replace Andre Onana in a 0-1 defeat at Old Trafford after the Cameroon international was sidelined in the entire pre-season schedule due to a hamstring injury.

Onana is fit to play after returning to full training last week.

However, Amorim chose the babyndir and international Turkey to make a fatal mistake which saw Riccardo Calafiori score from Declan Rice's corner - the only goal in the match.

In a press conference after a tense match, Amoram defended Bayindir and said he didn't need a new goalkeeper.

"I'm happy with the three goalkeepers. He (Babindir) chose to get the ball, but he was pushed. That's how I feel when I see the game."

"You choose to encourage the player (out) or get the ball at that time. He needs to use his hands to catch the ball, not encourage the player. He chooses to push the player and let the ball pass," said Amorim at ESPN.

Meanwhile, at a press conference before the match on Friday, August 15, 2025, Amorim confirmed that Onana was fit to play against Arsenal despite only three training sessions with the team in preparation for the match.

It was shocking that he was not included in the squad when the line-up was announced, but Amorim said the former Ajax was not crossed out.

"I didn't cross out Onana from the squad. It's not about crossed out Ornana. It's not about putting Andre Onana in just one week without seeing the game, without time, with training."

"Tom (Heaton) and Bayindir, during pre-season, they did a good job," said Amorim.
