US Senate Begins Investigation On Meta AI Chatbot Related To Child Sensual Content

JAKARTA - United States Senator Josh Hawley opened an investigation into Meta, following reports of internal AI chatbot rules allowing romantic and 'sensual' conversations with children.

In an official letter sent to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Hawley demanded Meta to store all relevant materials including email and immediately submit all internal documents before September 19, 2025.

Your company has acknowledged the truth of this report and has just made a recall after this worrying content was revealed, Hawley wrote in the letter, which was shared on X.

Is there anything - ANYTHING - Big Tech won't do for a quick bucket? Now we learn Meta's chatbots were programmed to carry on explicit and sensual talk with 8 years olds. It's sick. I'm launching a full investigation to get answers. Big Tech: Leave our kids alone pic.twitter.com/Ki0W94jWfo

The Missouri senator also cited a reported example of the AI Meta chatbot being allowed to refer to the body of an 8-year-old child as "a work of art" and "the property I highly value."

He also added, "Meta must immediately keep all relevant notes and produce the necessary documents so that Congress can investigate this problematic practice."

Hawley said the Crime and Anti-terrorism Subcommittee on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which he leads, will start an investigation and focus on whether Meta's generative AI products allow exploitation, fraud, or other criminal acts against children, and whether Meta misleads the public or regulators about its protection. .

"We intend to study who approved this policy, how long the policy took effect, and what Meta has done to stop this practice going forward," he added.
