Samsung Prepares Smart Glasses Without Screen To Compete With Meta Ray-Ban

JAKARTA - Samsung is reportedly developing screenless smart glasses that focus on audio, camera, and connectivity features, instead of displaying image projections such as advanced augmented reality (AR) devices.

This move is said to be a direct competitor to Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, as well as avoiding complexities and high costs like the Apple Vision Pro premium headset.

According to a South Korean media report, Sedaily, this smart glasses made by Samsung will not have a built-in screen. On the other hand, this device will resemble regular glasses or sunglasses equipped with speakers, microphones, and cameras. Even though it sounds like a lowing of specifications'' compared to AR headsets, this approach is actually considered more practical and affordable.

Meta Ray-Ban's popularity shows that consumers like the concept of simple smart glasses at relatively friendly prices. While sophisticated headsets like Apple Vision Pro do offer wider capabilities, their use is still limited and their price is high.

Until now there is no official information on when Samsung will launch the product. Last year's report predicts the launch in 2025, but the possibility is getting smaller over time.

On the other hand, Meta is rumored to be taking a different direction by developing smart sailing glasses that allow more advanced features such as live map views, video calls, and others.

Apple is also said to be preparing its own smart glasses. Even though the company has released the Apple Vision Pro, the device is still far from portable. Rumors say Apple's smart glasses will debut in 2026.

With these steps, competition in the smart glasses market is predicted to heat up in the next few years.
