Deputy Minister Of Finance: Financial Literacy Is A Foundation Of Bigger Things

Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono emphasized that financial literacy is very important and is the main foundation for the development of a bigger and more sustainable nation.

"We at the Ministry of Finance, OJK, LPS, Bank Indonesia are here to emphasize that literacy is very important," he said at a press conference on Indonesia's Leading Financial Literacy (Like It), Thursday, August 14.

"Literacy may be the foundation of bigger things. Because with financial knowledge, with such literacy, we certainly want this to be the foundation for the development of a bigger nation," he added.

Furthermore, Thomas said that today's activities have a very special meaning because they coincided with the first year of implementing financial inclusion initiatives for people with disabilities.

"Earlier I listened to their questions. They explained that they had also saved. It was a solid foundation. What really means for us in policy makers," he said.

In addition, Thomas also expressed his admiration for the spirit of the disabled participants, not only in terms of discussion topics, but also because they could immediately feel the extraordinary spirit of the people with disabilities who attended.

"So I think today is really meaningful. Not only from the topics we talked about, which we emphasize, from us who are currently working on the policy. But also listening to the enthusiasm of the younger siblings who are disabled," he said.

Thomas also said that saving habits can be a useful activity to support economic growth in the long term.

He revealed that the funds that were saved and managed were well so that they could be used for productive things.

"Try to imagine if you keep saving, one day you can help parents, you can help parents, what can you do? Yes, maybe build a house for you in the future," he said.

He explained that building houses does not only provide benefits for families, but also encourages economic growth because building houses also involves many parties, ranging from contractors, carpenters, to building material producers.

"It helps work, fosters the economy. So continue to be tube, so that you can build the country, help parents, and build the nation's homeland," he said.
