New Zealand PM: Netanyahu Loses Control, Attacks On Gaza Are Really Unacceptable
JAKARTA - New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "losted control" over Gaza.
Netanyahu is considered to have acted too far, causing crisis conditions in Gaza ranging from lack of humanitarian assistance to forced relocation of residents.
"I think he lost control," Luxon said.
"What we witnessed last night, the attack on Gaza City, was completely unacceptable," he continued.
New Zealand is considering recognizing the Palestinian state. Its close ally, Australia, on Monday joined Canada, Britain, and France in announcing this at the United Nations conference in September.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached an "inconceivable level", Britain, Canada, Australia, and several European allies said on Tuesday. They urged Israel to allow unlimited aid to the war-torn Palestinian enclave.
Israel denies responsibility for the hunger spreading in Gaza, accusing Hamas militants of stealing aid shipments.
Ahead of the parliamentary session on Wednesday, protesters gathered outside New Zealand's parliament building, beating pots and pans.
Local media, Stuff, reported protesters shouting "Members of parliament grew courage, admitting Palestine."
On Tuesday, Green Party lawmaker Chloe Swarbrick was expelled from parliamentary debate after he refused to apologize for his comments implying government politicians had no guts for not supporting a bill to sanction Israel for its war crimes.
Swarbrick was ordered to leave the debate room for the second day on Wednesday after he refused to apologize again. When he refused to leave, the government decided to suspend it.
