BMKG Predicts Light Rain In Many Areas, Beware Of Lightning In Bandarlampung And Sorong

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts light rain in most parts of Indonesia on Wednesday, August 13.

BMKG forecaster Sekar Anggraeni on the Youtube channel which was followed in Jakarta said, starting from Sumatra Island, the weather was predicted to be cloudy in the Banda Aceh area, thick cloudy in Pekanbaru, as well as smoke or fog in the city of Padang.

"Light rain has the potential to occur in Medan City, while Tanjung Pinang is forecasted to rain with moderate intensity," he said, quoted by ANTARA.

Still on the island of Sumatra, the weather is forecasted to be thick cloudy in Pangkal Pinang City, light rain in Jambi and Palembang cities, as well as moderate-intensity rain in Bengkulu.

"Be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning in the Bandarlampung area," he said.

Turning to Java, the weather in the city of Surabaya is forecasted to be thick cloudy, while the cities of Jakarta, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, and Yogyakarta have the potential for light rain.

Moving to the areas of Bali and Nusa Tenggara, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in Denpasar, cloudy in Kupang City, and thick cloudy in Mataram City.

Furthermore, shifting to Kalimantan Island, Pontianak City, Palangka Raya, Samarinda, and Banjarmasin, light rain is forecast, while Tanjung Selor has the potential to rain with moderate intensity.

Then for Sulawesi Island, the weather is forecasted to be thick cloudy in Manado, Gorontalo, Kendari, and Makassar cities.

"Light rain is predicted to occur in Palu and Mamuju," he said.

Moving to eastern Indonesia, the weather is predicted to be cloudy in Merauke City, while the cities of Ternate, Ambon, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya are forecasted for light rain.

"Be aware of rain that can be accompanied by lightning in the Sorong and Nabire areas," said Sekar.

In addition, BMKG also warned of a potential wave height of 2.5 to 4 meters in the Indian Ocean south of Banten to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

The potential for tidal flooding is also predicted to occur on the North Sumatra Coast, Riau Islands, Banten, DI Yogyakarta, Bali, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Maluku and South Papua.
