Apple Prepares The Cheapest MacBook In History, Uses IPhone Chip

JAKARTA - Apple is known as a premium technology brand with premium product prices. However, in a surprising step, the Cupertino-based company is reportedly preparing a MacBook at the most affordable price they have ever released.

Not only the cheap version of the existing model, this new MacBook is said to be using the chip from the iPhone to reduce production costs.

New Entry-Level MacBooks, Smaller And Cheaper

According to a recent report from DigiTimes (via Jukan), Apple is developing a new pocket-friendly MacBook. This laptop is likely to come with a smaller screen, which is 12.9 inches, and uses a mobile System-on-Chip (SoC) chip that is usually found on the iPhone.

The chipset used is most likely the A18 Pro, the same chip used on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The use of this chip is believed to be Apple's strategy to reduce selling prices, while maintaining optimal performance for users' basic needs.

Production and Estimated Prices

The report also states that Apple will start mass production of this MacBook component in the third quarter of 2025. While the official launch is expected to take place at the end of 2025 or early 2026.

Jim airing, senior analyst from DigiTimes, predicts that this MacBook will be sold for between $599 and $699. If true, this will be the first MacBook to really compete directly with Chromebooks and Windows laptops in the affordable price segment "markets that Apple has tended to avoid."

This innovation could be a big step for Apple in reaching more users, especially students and casual users who want Apple's ecosystem without having to spend too much. It's interesting to wait, whether this cheap MacBook will become a game changer in the global laptop market.
