Toddlers In Cilacap Killed By Debt Collectors

CILACAP - A tragic case has again rocked Cilacap Regency, Central Java. A toddler aged 3 years and 8 months in Wanareja District died after being abused by his mother's boyfriend, who is known to work as a debt collector or bank employee.

This incident was revealed after the circulation of a 2 minute 4 second amateur video which was allegedly recorded by the perpetrator. In the video, the victim with the initials AKA was seen being beaten and thrown into a ravine in the rubber forest area of Adimulya Village, Wanareja.

Initially, the victim's mother with the initials RI reported the death of her child as an accident. However, the victim's father, DK, suspected an irregularity.

After the investigation, the police named FI, an Acehnese, as a suspect. FI allegedly killed the victim because he considered it a barrier to a romantic relationship with the victim's mother, who was his customer.

According to the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cilacap Police, Kompol Guntar Arif Setiyoko, the statements of the perpetrators and the victim's mother were inconsistent. The perpetrator admitted that the victim fell from a motorbike while playing in a rubber plantation, while the victim's mother said the victim fell beside the house.

"We found evidence that led to the perpetrator. From the testimony of witnesses and evidence, it was revealed that the victim was brought to a rubber plantation on the grounds of playing. The motive was because the victim did not like his presence and was considered a barrier to the relationship," said Guntar, Monday, August 11.

The police have named two suspects in this case, namely FI and the mother of the victim of the Republic of Indonesia. Both were charged with Article 76 letter C in conjunction with Article 80 paragraph (3) of the Child Protection Law on violence that resulted in death, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

The reconstruction of the case was colored by tensions because residents who were waiting at the location tried to judge the perpetrators. Luckily, the police immediately secured the suspect to avoid the mob.
