Tanah Abang Market Is Monitored To Be Crowded Ahead Of Eid, But Traders' Income Decreases

JAKARTA - The Tanah Abang Market area is observed to be still busy on Sundays or four more days before the Idul Fitri 1442 Hijriah which is expected to fall on May 13.

As reported by Antara, crowds occurred in several market locations, namely Tanah Abang Market Block F and Block B, especially the sidewalk in front of the two blocks.

Even though it looks crowded, especially when compared to the working days during the period of the homecoming prohibition, traders assess that the density is still lower than the previous weekend, 1 Meim which was very busy.

"It's more crowded, but still less than the previous weekend, which was really crowded," said Arsen, one of the traders in front of Blok F, Sunday, May 9.

Visitors also, according to Arsen, mostly come from nearby algomeration areas such as Depok, Tangerang, or around Bekasi, due to the tightening of getting in and out of Jakarta.

"The effect is that the income is even less," said Arsen.

Meanwhile, one of the visitors to the Tanah Abang Drajat Market area admitted that he had come from Depok on purpose to buy clothes for the Eid needs for his family.

"I came here on purpose from Depok to look for clothes, fortunately, it was open and it was not too crowded, so there was no problem," he said.

Previously, it was known that the largest textile market in Southeast Asia would temporarily close, starting from May 12, 2021, to Tuesday (18/5) for routine maintenance apart from the Eid holiday.

"Yes, that's right, we will temporarily close it from May 12 to May 18 in the framework of the Eid al-Fitr holiday on May 13, 2021, and maintenance of buildings in all blocks is also carried out," said the manager of Block A Tanah Abang Market Heri Supriyatna when contacted, Friday (7/5 ).

Heri said that the maintenance includes cleaning the market area, maintaining spare parts in the building, and other parts that have to be maintained.

Regarding this closure, his party admitted that he had conducted outreach to traders for two weeks during this Ramadan.

"Two weeks after fasting, we have socialized it to traders," he said.
