Badminton to Archery Legend Athletes Donate Historic Items At The Surabaya Sports Museum

SURABAYA - A number of athletes donated historical items to fill a collection located at the Patmosusastro 12 Street Sports Museum, Surabaya City, East Java, including two badminton legends, Minarti Timur and Alan Budikusuma.

Head of the Surabaya City Culture and Tourism Service (Disbudpar), Antiek Sugiharti in Surabaya, Sunday, said that Disbudpar and the Surabaya Youth and Sports Service (Dispora) continue to collect historical items for museum collections.

"Some of the historical items were obtained from national and international athletes from the city of Surabaya," said Antiek as quoted by Antara, Sunday, May 9.

Previously, two Indonesian badminton legends, Minarti Timur and Alan Budikusuma, have given examples by donating their racket and t-shirt to the Surabaya Sports Museum collection.

Minarti Timur's racket and shirt, who when paired with Tri Kusharyanto won the silver medal, are the most memorable memories because they were worn during the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Alan Budikusuma, is a gold medalist at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

Minarti and Alan handed over the surrendered items to Tri Rismaharini, who was then Mayor of Surabaya at Surabaya City Hall on October 7, 2019.

"Yesterday, Ms. Lilies Handayani, an archery athlete who won national and international championships, also gave her archery tools. There are many more athletes who donated their historical items to be displayed at the Sports Museum," she said.

Antiek explained that the museum, which consists of two floors, has 235 types of collections. Hundreds of collections are divided into three types. First, historical collections, namely collections obtained from findings, excavation results, or historical material evidence, totaling around 169 pieces.

Then second, the heraldic collection, namely a sign of appreciation or service, rank, symbol, or logo as many as 65 pieces. The three collections of technology related to objects with technological elements amount to one.

According to her, so far her party has been looking for and collecting collections from a variety of sources with various sports ranging from traditional sports collection facilities to achievement sports.

Besides that, it also starts from match costumes, trophies, award certificates, medals, participant cards, shoes to everything related to sports.

Of all that, she said, the most interesting thing is that visitors can take advantage of photos with athlete figures in three dimensions, such as the figures of Alan Budi Kusuma, Minarti Timur, and several athlete figures who have made history.

"The location is near the exit. So visitors will bring home three-dimensional photo souvenirs," she said.

After the museum was inaugurated by the Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini and the Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi on Saturday (8/5),

The public can take advantage of the museum's destination for residents' vacation choices by making a reservation through the http://tiketwisata.surabaya.go.id page.

"For online reservation, remembering that it is still a COVID-19 pandemic, so the capacity for visitors is limited to 50 percent," said Antiek Sugiharti.
