Marquise Layers, A Contemporary Hair Cut That Makes Your Face Look Good
JAKARTA - Haircut trends continue to change, but this year there is one style that is stealing the attention of hair fashion lovers, namely marquise layers.
This piece is touted as the ideal choice for those who want to look cool without being bothered by treatment, as well as giving facial effects look more thin.
The Marquise layers are inspired by the shape of the marquise diamond, which combines long arches and soft tips for frames and naturally compresses the face.
This piece does not focus on large volumes or firm lines, but creates the illusion of light around the cheekbones and jaws. The result? Look that is suitable for almost all shapes of the face.
"Marquise layering is very easy to adapt to everyone's bone structure," said hairstylist Jordyn Quilenderino, quoted from the Instyle page on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
According to him, this technique is not just a standard cut, but a hair mitigation process to be in line with facial features. The margin layer cut creates a face shape like a diamond.

"Marquise layering is suitable for everyone and is very easy to adapt to the shape of the facial bone," said Quilenderino.
Usually, hairclists start with curtain bangs which are long between the cheekbones and the chin.
"It's my guide to gently cut the rest of the layer with a raidor cut technique and form a bottom layer that frames the face," he said.
Not only that, but the strands of thin hair in front of the ear are also used to add details.
"I took a little fine hair in front of my ear, then I cut the sliding or raidor cut to reinforce the shape of the diamond and fully increase and shape," said Quilenderino.
The final result is light, natural, and beautiful hair movements.
Tips For Cutting Hair On Salon
Just like other hairstyles, it is important to clearly convey requests to hairclists.
"Take a reference photo so that the stylist understands exactly the desired style," Quilenderino said.
To get the marquise layer, ask the soft layer that frames the face starting from the long curtain bangs, then smoothing down to the bottom.
Emphasize that what you want is hair movement, not large volume, and detail in the face area. Arrangement is the key to making this cut look optimal.
"I recommend using a light volume spray like R+Co Dallas with heat protection," said Quilenderino.
Spray on bangs and face-frading areas to give texture and durability. Use a small or medium round brush, then blow-dry bangs with sweeping motion.
"It will create a sexy swoop effect and the top part of the diamond form that characterizes this layer," he said.
In the front hairline area, dry your hair away from your face to the back of your ears. Meanwhile, for the other part, dry it in an alternating direction so that the result seems random.
