JAKARTA - Working according to passion or interest at this time is indeed a trend among generation Z or gen Z. However, according to journalist and founder of Narasi, Najwa Shihab, working according to passion requires great efforts to achieve it.
According to Najwa Shihab, to work according to a passion, one must know for sure and be sure first regarding passions or things he is interested in. There is a process that must be passed to find the passion.
"I sometimes hear people 'don't want to do something because it's not my passion'. You know where it's not your passion if you haven't done it, haven't followed it, and haven't felt the problem. So there is a process that must be passed," said Najwa Shihab, when met in the Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Najwa also emphasized that the concept of wanting to work according to passion could end up being an obstacle. So, he advised Gen Z to try not only to find but also to pursue things that are in depth, don't change frequently regarding passions just because in the process they often get challenges.
"The new concept is that he wants to work because he is worried that he will not work, he will not move if he doesn't really love it," he said.
"Even though love has to be worked on, after all. Love is through interest. So if we find something interesting for us, we take care of it, do it, even though sometimes the road is not always smooth. If we continue to be diligent and steadfast in doing it, it can bear love," he added.
In addition, for Gen Z who cannot work according to passion because of various other demands, it is not a problem. Najwa reminded that this could bring new meaning to life.
