Decent Life For Honorary Teachers: NTT Provincial Government Disburses IDR 9 Billion

The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Provincial Government has prepared a budget of IDR 9 billion to improve the welfare of honorary teachers and non-permanent teachers who teach in private schools in the region.

Head of the NTT Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud), Ambrosius Kodo, said that this policy is a form of the provincial government's attention to educators who have not received decent wages.

"This is a form of attention from the NTT Provincial Government to teachers in NTT," Ambrosius told reporters in Kupang, Antara, Thursday, August 7.

Teachers who have been paid by foundations so far receive honorariums under the Regional Minimum Wage (UMR). Therefore, the Rp9 billion budget is allocated so that their income can at least be equivalent to UMR.

In addition, the NTT Provincial Government has also allocated additional funds of IDR 5.1 billion for teachers who teach in suburban areas.

"So we have also prepared Rp5.1 billion for teachers who teach in suburban areas," he said.

According to Ambrosius, the budget is already available and is just waiting for the formulation of technical instructions (juknis) related to the assistance scheme. Data collection on the number of teachers who will receive incentives is still ongoing while waiting for the final technical guidelines.

Support for improving teacher welfare was also conveyed by Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) Atip Latipulhayat. When met in Kupang on Wednesday (6/8/2025), Atip emphasized that attention to teachers is part of Presidential AstaCita Program Prabowo Subianto.

"The government does not only pay attention to ASN teachers, but also all teachers, including private teachers," said Atip.

In line with that, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) Suharti said that the government also provided incentives for 341,248 non-ASN teachers who already have a minimum S1 or D-4 qualification but do not yet have a Teacher Professional Education Certificate (PPG).

The teachers will receive an incentive of IDR 300 thousand per month for seven months which is paid at once.

"Today, most of the recipients have received a budget of Rp. 2.1 million per teacher," said Suharti.

He added that the government has also allocated a budget for the implementation of teacher professional education for 808,570 teachers by 2025.
