Song Changed To Bird Voice Considered Resignation, LMKN And LMK Expected To Strengthen Socialization

JAKARTA - The polemic of music royalties in Indonesia is growing after the case of Mie Gacoan in Bali emerged, where the manager had to fall into legal problems because he was in arrears in paying royalties for performing rights of up to billions of rupiah.

Previously, the fear of performing songs overshadowed the singers who were caused by the Agnez Mo and Ari Bias cases, now the fear has spread among cafe and restaurant entrepreneurs.

Responding to the polemic, the Indonesian Radio Music Directors Association (AMDI) via Instagram voiced its concerns. They regretted the narrative that developed on social media, where many calls boycotted the screening of Indonesian musicians' songs at cafes and restaurants.

Representing AMDI, Awan Yudha who also works as Music Director for Ardan Radio called the narrative a setback, especially some cafes and restaurants prefer to play environmental music such as birds.

"If it's a matter of cafes and restaurants having to play the sound of birds, I think it's really a setback," said Awan when contacted by VOI, Wednesday, August 6.

"Obviously (a setback, because there is a sense of fear from entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs who want to use song services," he added.

As a person who works on radio and deals with royalty payments, Awan sees these obligations unavoidable, considering that everything has been regulated in the Copyright Act.

However, the main problem is the lack of socialization from the National Collective Management Institute (LMKN) and the Collective Management Institute (LMK) towards copyrighted users. The Mie Gacoan case, which suddenly appears to the public and becomes a conversation on social media with a nominal of up to billions, has made the fear of cafe and restaurant entrepreneurs even bigger.

"The problem is just socialization. If they are well socialized, they are well informed about these royalties, I think they will pay," said Awan. "It's just because the Mir Gacoan case suddenly billions, so all of them are cool."

Furthermore, Awan hopes that socialization can actually be carried out on copyrighted users, so that no party actually feels disadvantaged.

"The socialization is even better, don't harm other parties," he said. We also really want Indonesian musicians to be prosperous, and we (users) are also prosperous. The ecosystem is all prosperous, don't let anyone be harmed.
