8 Intolerance Cases In 2025, Komnas Perempuan Highlights The Lack Of Government Actions
JAKARTA - The National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) noted that at least eight cases of intolerance in Indonesia had occurred throughout 2025.
"Throughout 2025, Komnas Perempuan has documented eight cases of intolerance. After previously occurring in Sukabumi and Depok, a similar incident occurred again in Padang on July 27, 2025," said Komnas Perempuan member Daden Sukendar, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, August 8.
This was said by Daden in response to the persecution of the congregation who was worshiping at the Christian Church of Setia Indonesia prayer house (GKSI) in Padang Sarai Village, Koto Tangah District, Padang City, West Sumatra.
Daden strongly condemned the occurrence of this intolerant incident.
"Komnas Perempuan condemns the recurrence of incidents of intolerance," he said.
Komnas Perempuan reminded the government and local governments to provide guidance to residents to maintain religious harmony and prevent conflicts, as mandated by Article 25 paragraph (1) of Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government, so that they can take steps to anticipate the occurrence of judicial action taken by residents themselves.
This case began when the masses came and dispersed Christian congregation worship activities at the GKSI prayer house, Padang City, West Sumatra, Sunday (27/7) afternoon.
One of the videos that went viral on social media showed a number of men, some carrying wood, shouting to force the congregation out of the prayer house.
