Gerindra: Amnesty Hasto Not Related To PDIP's Political Attitude

JAKARTA - The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, denied granting amnesty to President Prabowo Subianto to Hasto Kristiyanto regarding the statement by the General Chairperson of the PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri who officially declared the party's stance to support the government.

"I don't think it has anything to do with it," Dasco told reporters at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, August 4.

Dasco emphasized that the decision to grant amnesty to Hasto was taken before the 6th PDIP Congress took place. He considered it irrelevant to associate the PDIP's support for government policies with President Prabowo's decision.

"The policy of granting amnesty was carried out before the congress. It has nothing to do with Mrs. Mega's statement," he explained.

However, Dasco welcomed Megawati's statement asking PDIP cadres to support pro-people government programs. He called it a positive signal for the Prabowo government.

"In several meetings, Mrs. Mega has said that good programs will certainly be supported by PDIP, and PDIP will also provide suggestions and input on things that may not be right," said Dasco.

When asked whether PDIP would join the government after the amnesty and statements of support, Dasco stated that he did not know for sure.

"Whether or not PDIP has entered the government, I think it can be asked directly to the government. I myself have not heard of this," he concluded.
