Megawati Affirms PDIP Supports Government, This Is The Palace's Response

Chairman of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri emphasized the party's stance on supporting President Prabowo Subianto's government.

This statement was conveyed by Megawati when giving directions in the national technical guidance of the PDIP Faction throughout Indonesia in Denpasar, Bali, Wednesday, July 30.

"We want this party to remain organizational solid and have the same frequency. Mrs. Megawati also emphasized that we support the government," said PDIP DPP chairman Deddy Sitorus.

Responding to this, Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi emphasized that PDIP support does not automatically mean entering the Red and White Cabinet.

"Supporting, you don't always have to join the government," said Prasetyo at the DPR/MPR Complex, Monday, August 4.

According to Prasetyo, PDIP support can be interpreted as a role to balance the government, which is actually important in the democratic system.

"The government also needs checks and balances, needs input, needs a balancer. There is no problem," he added.

However, the Palace stated that there had been no discussion regarding the possibility of PDIP joining the cabinet.

"There has been no discussion there," said Prasetyo.

So far, PDIP has chosen to provide political support without having to be in government, while maintaining internal consolidation and strategic role in parliament.

This PDIP move is a signal that the political map of the Prabowo Subianto coalition is still dynamic, especially ahead of the evaluation of the post-a year government cabinet.
