Ministry Of Trade Concerning E-Commerce Tax: Not Disturbing Micro Business

Director General of Domestic Trade (PDN) of the Ministry of Trade Iqbal Shoffan Shofwan said the e-commerce tax applies to businesses with a turnover of IDR 500 million and above per year.

Therefore, he said, business actors in online marketplaces such as Shopee and Tokopedia whose turnover is below Rp500 million do not need to worry about this e-commerce tax.

"So far, isn't it. Because what is charged is for those who turnover is above Rp. 500 million on an annual basis. The things below are not, right," he said when met at the Ministry of Trade Office, Jakarta, Monday, August 4.

Iqbal said that the turnover above Rp500 million per year is not a category of micro-enterprises. Thus, micro-enterprises on online sales platforms will not be affected by the implementation of e-commerce taxes.

According to Iqbal, the e-commerce platform actually helps the government in collecting taxes from sellers who sell there. He considered this policy quite fair.

"The e-commerce platform also functions as a tax collector and that's fair, I think. Above Rp500 million, it means not micro-enterprises, yes small and medium-sized businesses, whose turnover is above that year," he said.

For your information, the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati issued an e-commerce tax collection rule through the Minister of Finance Regulation Number 37 of 2025. The PMK was signed by Sri Mulyani on June 11, 2025 and promulgated on July 14, 2025.
