815,000 Households Have Been Connected PGN Gas Network As Of 2024
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) is boosting the use of natural gas which has the opportunity to become priority energy towards national energy self-sufficiency.
PGN noted that until December 2024 there had been 815,000 households with gas network connections (jargas).
PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development Rosa Permata Sari said PGN will continue to build household jargas which can reduce the use of high emission fuels such as LPG and kerosen.
If the number of jargas customers reaches 1 million Home Connections (SR), it has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by around 380 thousand tons of CO2 by 2034.
"PGN has connected more than 815,000 households with a total jargas pipe length of up to 20,000 km," he said, Monday, August 4.
Meanwhile, PGN has a target of adding around 450,000 household connections by the next five years.
In addition, PGN is developing a new product, namely biomethane. This biomethane is agricultural waste, for example from palm oil, straw, and also animal waste which is then used as biogas.
Later, biomethane will be injected into the existing natural gas pipeline network.
"The plan is that Biomethane will be on stream in 2027 as part of the initiative for Net Zero Emission," said Rosa.
With Step Out's strategy, continued Rosa, PGN entered into other natural gas derivative businesses or green energy such as ammonia and hydrogen (H2). Considering this is PGN's new business, we chose the partnership concept.
"With good partnerships, a lot of technology is interesting to implement and ensure risk mitigation when entering a new business," explains Rosa.
Several other natural gas projects are being developed by PGN to expand natural gas utilization, namely Tegal-Cilacap Pipes and LNG storage and regasification plans in Java Island.

Then for LNG, PGN continues to strive for the distribution of LNG supply, most of which are from eastern Indonesia for customers, including in Java, which has a very large demand.
As for CNG, PGN prioritizes being distributed to hotels (hotels, restaurants, and cafes), MSMEs, and other commercial needs.
"If the use of natural gas in the form of CNG and LNG is combined, it will help the government to reduce subsidy levels," said Rosa.
