KPK Chairman Says Hasto Is Still Proven To Be Bribery After Receiving Amnesty From Prabowo

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Setyo Budiyanto said the amnesty given by President Prabowo Subianto did not abolish the criminal act of former PDI-P Secretary General (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto.

This was conveyed in response to the statement of PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri who satirized her institution during a speech at the PDIP's VI Congress event, Saturday, August 2. According to Setyo, even though Hasto was released from the KPK Detention Center, he was still guilty according to the court's verdict.

Hasto is known to have been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison before receiving amnesty. He was proven to have committed bribes related to the interim replacement process (PAW) for members of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2019-2024 period.

"In terms of the law enforcement process, there has been a decision, meaning that the person concerned has been proven guilty of a crime. The status is inherent," Setyo told reporters.

However, Hasto is no longer serving his sentence. "Regarding forgiveness, that is the right of the president's authority," he said.

Megawati in her speech asked law experts to uphold justice properly. He asked for legal justice to be re-established in accordance with the symbol of Dewi Keadilan whose eyes were closed.

"Do you have no children, no siblings? If you are treated like that, then how, where will you seek true justice? Listen to all Indonesian people who care about it. Return to justice law in the Republic of Indonesia," Megawati said in her speech.

On that occasion, Megawati also satirized the KPK. He felt strange about the case that ensnared Hasto.

"Sorry, if I look at the KPK now, it's sad that it's not my game. I'm the one who made it, his name is the Corruption Eradication Commission. Try my friends, if now the model is like this, then what? Just think about it. It's strange, I feel strange, really," he said.

Megawati further touched on the amnesty given by President Prabowo Subianto to Hasto. He said this oddity even made the former Indonesian Minister of Defense (Menhan) have to intervene.

"When it comes to this, the President has to intervene? Try to think about it. I once was president. So after the twists and turns. Try you guys like that. Right? It's funny, isn't it? Why? Why did the KPK become like that? That's it," he concluded.
