Real Madrid's Request To Postpone La Liga Schedule Rejected By RFEF Judge
JAKARTA - Real Madrid's request to postpone the opening match of the 2025/2026 La Liga season due to their involvement in the 2025 Club World Cup has been rejected by a judge of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
Los Blancos played their last game of the tournament on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, when they were beaten 0-4 by Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals at the MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
La Liga has scheduled Real Madrid's first match in the 2025/2026 season- against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu--on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, at 21.00 local time, 41 days after the last match at the 2025 Club World Cup.
Real Madrid argued that the date was a violation of the rest period and the minimum preparation listed in the collective agreement governing professional football in Spain.

In a verdict released on Thursday, July 31, 2025 local time, RFEF judge Jose Alberto Pelaez said he rejected Real Madrid's request to postpone the match to another date.
Meanwhile, the judge said Real Madrid players had started their break on July 11, 2025. Therefore, they have enjoyed 21 days of uninterrupted rest set out in a joint work agreement.
The judge further said the regulation did not mention an additional 21 days for physical and tactical preparation, as Real Madrid and the Spanish Players Union (AFE) suggested.
Real Madrid have 48 hours to appeal the decision.
Apart from that, Los Blancos rival Barcelona will start their league season with a trip to Real Mallorca on Saturday, August 16, 2025, while Atletico Madrid will travel to Espanyol on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
