Neuralink Will Hold A Clinical Study On Brain Implant Development In The UK
JAKARTA Neuralink, Elon Musk's neurotechnology company, announced plans for a new clinical study in the UK. The company will test processors to help paralyzed patients.
In this trial, Neuralink will ensure its processor can help patients with severe levels of paralysis. The target is that this processor can help patients control digital devices with only a thought.
"The launch of this research in the United Kingdom was built based on the success of our tests in the US and marks an important step towards bringing our life-changing BCI technology to individuals with neurological disorders around the world," Neuralink wrote through its X account on Thursday, 31 July.
During this clinical study, Neuralink will collaborate with two leading medical institutions in the region. The two institutions revealed by Neuralink are the University College London Hospitals Trust and Newcastle Hospitals.
Through this collaboration, Neuralink hopes that they can accelerate research and development of brain implant technology. That way, there will be more patients who can be helped by the technology they create.

Neuralink said that this clinical study will be open to people who are paralyzed due to certain mental conditions. This condition includes spinal cord injuries and a nervous system disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
"If you live with paralysis caused by conditions such as spinal cord injuries and ALS, you may be eligible to participate in this study," Neuralink added.
For patients in the UK who are interested in participating in the program, they can register through the neuralink.com/trials website. If deemed eligible, they can undergo surgery to install brain implants.
