Spain Investigates App Store Tightly For Finding New Evidence

JAKARTA The Spanish Market and Competition Commission (CNMC) has decided to expand their investigation stage of the App Store. This investigation concerns Apple's pricing rules.

CNMC has been investigating the App Store since July 2024. This investigation was carried out after they accused Apple of carrying out commercial requirements unfairly. This action is considered detrimental to many developers so that an investigation is carried out.

The decision to expand this investigation was made public at a time when Apple was trying to resolve their dispute with the European Commission regarding the Digital Markets Act (DMA). CNMC, with full confidence, said it had new evidence.

CNMC's evidence suggests that Apple requires developers to follow their set price schedule. This rule applies to apps sold in their app stores.

Actions like this could hinder competition so the commission needs to address them. If found guilty, Apple's efforts to impose unfair requirements could violate EU law rules.

On the other hand, Apple denies the allegations. Quoting from 9to5mac, Apple insists that the App Store continues to offer a secure experience and for its users and provides great business opportunities for developers in Spain.

Despite disagreeing, Apple will wait for the investigation to go well. The company even admitted that it would, "work closely with the Spanish Business Competition Authority to ensure our concerns are fully understood."
