Through The Seminar Of Fashion And Crafts, Indonesia And France Strengthen The Mode Industry

JAKARTA The partnership between Indonesia and France continues to be strengthened through the creative industry sector, especially fashion and crafts.

Through the DOOR mode incubator program which started in 2022, the two countries established bilateral cooperation involving various stakeholders, including designers, craftsmen, educators, and fashion industry players.

The peak of this year's incubation program was marked by the implementation of the Seminar on Fashion and Crafts which was held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the Fransamaais Indonesia Institute (IFI) Thamrin, Jakarta. This seminar is open to the public and attended by hundreds of participants from Indonesia and France.

"This event is a collaboration between the French Embassy in Indonesia through the IFI, JF3 Fashion Festival, and the LAKON Indonesia ecosystem. PINTU has reached more than 100 professional modes through mobility programs, creative collaboration, and three months of creative recognition in Indonesia for French designers," said Soegianto Nagaria, Chairman of JF3 and Co-Initiator of PINTU.

The main keynote session was delivered by Alain Soleil, Director of Ecole Duperre Paris, who discussed global cultural and aesthetic trends from Paris' perspective.

Alain Soleil's presence also marks the implementation of cooperation between Ecole Duperré and the DOOR program, after the MoU was signed during a French state visit to Indonesia in May 2025.

This session is complemented by an explanation from Simpwati Simarno, Managing Director Louis Vuitton Indonesia, which provides Indonesia's perspective on the dynamics of the global fashion and luxury industry, also praised the Indonesian market.

"Many of my friends ask, why do every time Indonesians come to our outlets, they always ask for the latest and best. They even want limited products," he said.

He also replied, because everything is connected. They can update with the latest fashion trends, including those that are becoming global trends.

This seminar also features two main discussion panels.

Enduring Threads, discussing the preservation and adaptation of traditional skills such as Indonesian hand weaving and French haute couture embroidery.

Fashion 's Green Threads, discussing the commitment of the two countries to sustainable fashion, presents speakers from brands such as Oscar Lawalata and Louise Marcaud.

The seminar closed with a round table discussion that summarized the findings, reflections, and opportunities for further collaboration between Indonesian and French fashion industry players during the Focus Week DOOR.
