Scheduled To Air This Year, Pesesugihan Sate Crow Offers Horror Films With Full Comedy

JAKARTA - The production house of Cahaya Pictures will prove through its latest film Pesugihan Sate Crow, an absurd klenic comedy that lifts one of the strangest and most intriguing mystical mystical practices in Javanese culture: sellingtor satay to spirits for instant wealth.

This film is inspired by the true story of the ritual of pesugihan spread through oral traditions and is believed to still exist in various regions in Indonesia, such as Banyuwangi, Jember, the coast of Central Java, even to Sulawesi and Sumatra.

Interestingly, in 2023, the Tanjung Perak Port Police, Surabaya, had thwarted the smuggling of 51 blackgurongs that were suspected of being used for this ritual.

Raising the myth to the big screen, Pesugihan Sate Crow is packaged in a absurd comedy dress with double director: comic Dono Pradana and director Etienne Caesar.

"Through this film, I just want to say, life is absurd. Sometimes the darkest things can actually make us laugh; and apparently, there are also pesugihan whose sacrifices are not humans. If other horror films are full of top artists, this film actually includes top ghosts throughout Indonesia," said Dono Pradana, director and comedian from Surabaya who is known through Stand Up Comedy Academy and Yowis Ben the Series.

"Customers have become part of our oral culture, but through this film we see it from an absurd and humorous side. Because yes... something instant won't give maximum results. The creative process is also crazy we want viewers to be afraid and laugh at the same time, "added Etienne Caesar, co-director.

Rows of cast of this film add to their own appeal. Ardit Erwanda, Nunung, Yono Bakrie, Benidictus Siregar, Firza Valaza, Arief Didu, and Ence Bagus are ready to shake the audience's stomach, while Yoriko Angeline is the only non-comic that gives a touch of balance in the midst of comedy chaos.

"When I first heard the title, Pesugihan Sate Crow, I thought. This is the pesugihan who ate satay, or theUNsong that opened stalls ?," said Ardit Erwanda, then laughed.

"But from that oddity, I was immediately interested. The premise is fresh and absurd, selling satay to demons is funny first in the head," he continued.

This film follows the stories of Anto, Dimas, and Indra 'three friends who are determined to choose the path of pesugihan in order to achieve wealth, throne, and women. What happens if the effort to find money even has to make satay for demons?

Produced by Aoura Lovenson Chandra and Fauzar Nurdin, Pesugihan Sate Crow is scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
