Anticipating Over Capacity, Minister Of Imipas Targets To Build 7 Out Of 13 Prisons In 2025
JAKARTA - Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) Agus Andrianto stated that the construction of seven of the 13 correctional institutions (prisons) is being completed in 2025. This development is to overcome the problem of overcapacity or overcapacity.
"This year we are trying to finish seven," said Agus after visiting the Class II A Women's Prison Malang, in Malang City, East Java, Tuesday, which was confiscated by Antara.
The construction of the new prison adjusts to the amount of budget in the ministry.
The seven prisons to be built are priorities from the Ministry of Imipas.
Asked about the location of the prison construction, Agus still has not disclosed in detail. But what is clear is that it is evenly distributed in Indonesia.
"It is evenly distributed throughout Indonesia," he said.
In addition, he was asked about the condition of the Malang Class II A Women's Prison, he said that services for the inmates were still running optimally.
However, Agus did not deny that prisons located in Sukun District, Malang City do need improvement, especially in terms of capacity.
"So far, it is quite good with all kinds of conditions, overcapacity, head of prisons and detention centers so that they can still be used to provide the best service," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Malang Class II A Women's Prison, Yunengsih, said that several inmates had conveyed a number of their aspirations to the Minister of Imipas, including the matter of granting decades of remission and remission of independence.
"He (Minister of Imipas) said that as long as the conditions are met, he will get remission," said Yunengsih.
In addition, Yunengsi stated that there were also inmates with a life sentence who expressed their aspirations to submit a review (PK).
"Continue to interact about life imprisonment, there are those who ask if they can (submit) PK because they have applied for clemency but are refused. So, asking for a second chance so that there will be criminal changes," he said.
