Stratus Becomes The Most Covid-19 Variant In Indonesia, Ministry Of Health Urges To Stay Alert Without Panic

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) reports that the current variant of COVID-19 type Stratus or XFG is the most widely spread in Indonesia. Based on information from the Ministry of Health's Surveillance and Quarantine website, the Stratus variant is the most commonly found today. These findings came from routine examinations at 39 health centers, 35 hospitals, and 14 quarantine centers at the entrance to Indonesian territory.

"As of Sunday 30 (20-26 July), of the 186 examinations, there were 13 positive cases with a positivity rate of 6.99 percent," the statement read, quoted from the Surkarkes.kemkes.go.id page.

"In June the dominant variant in Indonesia was XFG (75% in May, and 100% in June), and XEN (25% in May)," he added.

The report explained that in June 2025, the XFG variant was the most common. The figure rose from 75 percent in May to 100 percent in June.

Meanwhile, the XEN variant contributed 25 percent in May.

The Ministry of Health calls the Stratus variant the easiest to spread, and until mid-June 2025 has been detected in 130 countries, especially in Europe and Asia.

The Surkarkes.kemkes.go.id site also noted an increase in the spread of the virus, including an increase in the number of positive cases.

"The positive proportion of Covid-19 died from the previous week, from 3 percent to 9 percent," he continued.

However, the Ministry of Health emphasized that the dominant variant currently circulating is still in the low risk category.

The public is advised not to panic, but to maintain health protocols, especially for people who have congenital diseases and the elderly group.

"There is no indication that this subvariant is more infectious or causes severity than the previous subvariant, but vigilance is needed for the elderly and/or people who have comorbidities", the Ministry of Health ordered.

Throughout 2025, the Ministry of Health noted that the highest number of cases came from DKI Jakarta, East Java, Banten, West Java, South Sumatra, and DI Yogyakarta.

As a precautionary measure, people are still advised to carry out a clean and healthy lifestyle, apply ethics when coughing or sneezing, wash their hands diligently, and wear masks when in crowded places or declining health conditions.
