Hoax News: Guardiola And Xavi Apply To Be The Coach Of The Indian National Team

JAKARTA - The Indian Football Federation (AIFF) stated that Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez's proposals to become coaches of the Indian National Team (Timnas) were not genuine or hoaxes.

Director of the AIFF National Team told The Times of India last week that the name of the former Barcelona coach, Xavi, is on the applicant list.

The report also cites a member of the AIFF Technical Committee who said his candidacy was deemed too expensive to catch up with.

Furthermore, in a statement at the weekend, AIFF said it had evaluated 170 applications for the head coach position and eventually selected three candidates, including rejecting proposals from Guardiola and Xavi. However, the proposals from the two coaches turned out to be a hoax.

"AIFF received emails containing proposals from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernandez."

"The authenticity of their application cannot be confirmed. Since then it has been revealed that the email application is not genuine," said AIFF, as reported by ESPN.

Meanwhile, AIFF sacked the former manager of the Indian national team, Igor Stimac, in June 2024 before appointing Spaniarddok Marquez, who left his post this month and returned to coach of the Indian Super League team, FC Goa.
