Mount Slamet's Activity Increases, But It's Still Safe If It's Not Through This Radius
BANYUMAS - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Banyumas Regency appealed to the public to remain calm in responding to the increase in Mount Slamet activity, even though the highest mountain on the island of Java is still on Alert Status (Level II).
The Daily Executive of the Head of BPBD Banyumas, Barkah, said that the increase in volcanic activity was observed through the Slamet Volcano Observation Post (PGA) belonging to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG).
"There has been an increase in seismic activity with shallow and deep volcanic earthquakes," said Barkah when confirmed in Purwokerto, Antara, Monday, July 28.
He explained that on Saturday, July 26, Mount Slamet was recorded to have experienced one shallow volcanic earthquake and one deep volcanic earthquake. The next day, four internal volcanic earthquakes were observed.
Even so, the status of Mount Slamet remains at Level II (Alert). PVMBG recommends that people and tourists do not move within a 2 kilometer radius of the summit crater.
"This is for safety. We ask the public not to be consumed by rumors or hoaxes about the activities of Mount Slamet," said Barkah.
BPBD Banyumas also continues to coordinate with Pos PGA Slamet to monitor the latest developments.
"If you need official information, the public can directly contact the local BPBD," he continued.
