Women's Euro Final 2025: Bonmati Aims To Win As The Peak Of The Spanish Golden Era

JAKARTA - Aitana Bonmati said defeating England in the Euro Women's 2025 final on Sunday, July 27, 2025, WIB night, would be like closing the cycle for the golden generation of the Spanish Women's National Team.

The Ballon d'Or winner twice in a row, Bonmati, has won everything at club level with Barcelona, as well as one World Cup and one UEFA Nations League with Spain. However, he still hasn't won the Euro Women's trophy.

He has helped Spain make history in the summer final, scoring the winning goal as they beat Germany for the first time in the middle of last week to reach their first Euro Women final.

"Winning will be like closing a cycle. Apart from the Olympics, it's the only tournament some of us miss."

"This will be the culmination. I don't want to say about my career, but it would be great in the future if I could win all major tournaments."

"We are ready. This is another dream for us. This is one of the trophies we miss a lot from us. We will give everything to change it."

"Achieving this final is proof that we have a golden generation. We experience unique moments and generations like this don't come every year. I've always said I'm very grateful to be a part of it," Bonmati said in Lausanne, Switzerland, as reported by ESPN.

This is the latest in a series of key meetings between Spain and England, which are two favorites to lift tournament trophies starting in Switzerland.

England beat Spain on their way to win Euro Women three years ago.

However, La Roja took revenge a year later by beating Lioness in the 2023 World Cup final in Australia.

Both teams won one game each in the UEFA Nations League when they met earlier this year.

Bonmati further said the pressure would now be in the hands of Britain as the defending champion. This can make the Spanish path easier to realize dreams.

"The UK is the defending champion of Europe, so all the pressure is on them to defend the title."

"We will try to stop them. We focus on the game. For us, they are favorites," said Bonmati.

Meanwhile, Bonmati remained silent about what Spain expected from England, but said his team was ready to face anything, including Sarina Wiegman's side.

"England is a team that relies on physical, but Germany, in my opinion, is even stronger."

"I don't know if they will press hard. I think the opposing teams are increasingly respecting us and many don't dare to attack because it means giving us a lot of space behind."

"We don't know exactly what they're going to do, of course, but we expect a game similar to the one we've played against them in recent years, all of which are very balanced."

"As I said, we are ready to face whatever their game is," he said.
