Inter Milan Internal Is Cool, Lautaro Martinez Makes Peace With Calhanoglu
JAKARTA - Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez finally reconciled with his colleague Hakan Calhanoglu. The two forget about disputes and arguments through the media after losing in the 2025 Club World Cup against Fluminense.
Martinez and Calhanoglu who were the pillars of Inter attacked each other in front of the media after a failure at the Club World Cup. Inter, who became superior beyond the suspicion of being forced to give up Fluminense 2-0 in the last 16.
After the defeat, Martinez issued a title about Inter players who no longer have a fighting spirit. The Argentine national team striker firmly stated that if anyone doesn't feel at home at Inter, they should just go and move to another club.
"I said anyone who wants to survive will definitely survive. Anyone who doesn't want to survive, please leave," Martinez said in front of the media as quoted by Football Italia.
"I will not name names. We are here [in the United States to compete in the Club World Cup] to give everything. But I see a lot of things I don't like. I am the captain and leader of this team. So, I have to talk," he said.
Although he did not mention names, Martinez's statement led to his own colleague, Calhanoglu. This was also confirmed by club president Giuseppe Marotta that Martinez's statement was indeed addressed to Calhanoglu.
However, the captain of the Turkish national team argued that he was absent from the Club World Cup because he had not recovered from a calf injury. Even Calhanoglu and a number of Inter players finally left the team and came home early to undergo recovery. Because coach Cristian Chivu is definitely unable to bring down Calhanoglu.
In the middle of the recovery process, rumors circulated that Calhanoglu wanted to leave Inter and join Galatasaray.
Martinez also said, "The message is clear: who wants to survive already has to face the challenge of winning trophies, if you want to leave, I say goodbye."
Martinez's attitude which indirectly accused his own partner of being criticized by AS Roma legend Francesco Totti. According to him, only Inter players themselves actually know better about the internal dynamics of the club. But Totti considered Martinez's attitude and statement inappropriate.
"Honestly, I don't know what their problem is. Only those who know the internal dynamics of the club so things like this can stick out," said Totti.
"Whatever, I think Lautaro was not in the right moment to state this in public," said the former Roma captain.
Although it was heated up, all returned to cool after Calhanoglu and Martinez reconciled. Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in their first training after the holidays, the two hugged and agreed to forget about the chaos in the past.
Martinez also posted on his Instagram account as they hugged, sat together and smiled at each other. Their peace makes Inter's internals no longer hot.
