Governor In Iraq Resigns In The Aftermath Of Malls In Fire Area Kills 69 People

JAKARTA - The Governor of Referee Province in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Miyah, resigned from his position after one of the malls or shopping centers in the area of the fire claimed the lives of 69 people.

Citing AP on Thursday, July 24, Al-Miyah said his actions were a form of respect for the victims who died in the five-story mall fire.

According to him, resigning from this position is part of his loyalty to the people of the Referee Province so that they can re-elect more expert leaders so that incidents do not happen again.

On Al-Miyah's decision, the Referee Provincial Council then appointed Hadi Majid Kazzar as the new governor.

A fire broke out in a mall in the city of al-Kute, Referee Province, Iraq on Wednesday, July 16 evening. The fire broke out overnight after eating the supermarket building, causing 69 people to die and 11 others to disappear.

The incident sparked public outrage. Meanwhile, the victim's family demanded that the governor be removed and the party responsible for negligence in creating the fire was responsible.
