Cargo Ship Targets Houthi Attack, Greece Sends Mitigation Team To Red Sea

JAKARTA - Greece deployed rescue teams to mitigate sailors and crew of its cargo ships if attacked by the Houthis while crossing the Red Sea.

Citing Reuters on Thursday, July 24, Greek shipping minister Vassilis Kikilias said the rescue ship, called Giant, would focus on working to support, protect and assist Greek sailors and their ships.

This action follows two Liberian-flagged cargo ships operated by Greece, Magic Seas and Eternity C, sinking off Yemen's coast in a Houthi attack.

The incidents of the two ships marked the resumption of the Houthis attack on shipping flows off Yemen's coast.

The Houthis have recorded more than 100 ships in the period November 2023 and December 2024, which they call a form of solidarity with Palestine following Israeli military aggression in Gaza killing many civilians.
