Pertamina International Shipping Prepares A Strategy To Become A Global Player

JAKARTA - After being inaugurated on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) is increasingly ready to carry out its mandate to expand its business wing to become an international integrated marine logistics company.

Pertamina International Shipping President Director Erry Widiastono said, to support this, PIS has just received a transfer of shipping assets from PT Pertamina (Persero) which includes 71 units of Pertamina-owned vessels, non-mooring marine assets, and Pertamina's share of ownership in PT Pertamina Trans Kontinental. (PTK).

"Through the handover of these assets and in the process of receiving 6 (six) terminal assets, in the future PIS will not only manage the shipping business, but also as an integrated marine logistics company," said Erry.

The next step, PIS will make the PTK as a business entity in coordination with PIS and at the same time hand over the non-mooring marine facilities assets (other than land and buildings) to the PTK. This strategic step is part of the corporate action plan in integrating the marine logistics business into the scope of Subholding Shipping which is expected to be more developed on a national and global scale.

PTK as integrated with PIS in running its business in the future, is a subsidiary of Pertamina which provides shipping services, integrated maritime services, and logistics services. Having been operating since 1969, PTK's operational area stretches from Sabang to Merauke, which currently has more than 50 types of services.

As the first shipping and maritime services company in Indonesia, PTK uses an environmentally friendly hybrid engine tug boat as a form of the company's commitment to meet the expectations of the global community for a responsible business entity. In carrying out its services, PTK has 4 Subsidiaries and 1 Joint Venture, with 11 Branch Offices.

In line with the vision to become the leading Shipping Company in Asia, the transfer of assets to Subholding Shipping will increase the company's leverage in both market and financial expansion. Where the company's bargaining position in the market will increase and the ability to finance for investment will also be stronger, so that the company will have the incentive to develop better.

The integration of services or services between PIS and PTK is also expected to be able to provide added value in the form of competitive service rates for customers, especially Pertamina Group.

On this occasion, Erry emphasized that this asset transfer would strengthen PIS in expanding to provide integrated services.

"With the inauguration of PIS as Subholding Shipping, we will carry out various business developments that are not only focused on transportation, which has become our strength, but also on activities related to integrated marine logistics," he said.
