Welcoming US Mediation, Syrian Government Withdraws Troops From Sweden

JAKARTA - The Syrian government has withdrawn its troops from the Sweida region to prevent further escalation. The move is considered a response to the mediation efforts of the United States and Arab countries.

Syria's official news agency SANA quoted a statement from the presidential office as reporting the decision to withdraw troops was taken "in the framework of Syria's commitment to avoid further escalation," following negotiations held late Wednesday.

The troop withdrawal is based on guarantees that illegal weapons groups will not commit retaliatory violence or endanger civilians.

"What happened afterwards is clearly a violation of the peace of understanding, when these groups created terrible and documented violence by the world, including brutal acts that conflict with the spirit of mediation, threaten civil peace, and push the country into chaos and the collapse of security," the statement said. the statement was reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, July 18.

The Syrian government called on all parties to exercise restraint and stressed the importance of efforts to restore the country's authority in the region.

The government has also reaffirmed its commitment to national unity and the protection of all citizens, regardless of ethnic or religious backgrounds.

"The state is also calling for international support to restore stability, control illegal weapons, and enforce the rule of law throughout Syria."

In a statement, the Syrian government also criticized Israel's interference, which was considered to have clouded the situation in the country.

The statement concluded with the affirmation that the government remains responsible for safeguarding the sovereignty and safety of the Syrian people.
