Officers Disabled Sun Bears In Tanah Datar With Bius Shots
TANAH DATAR - Officers from the Tanah Datar Agriculture Service, West Sumatra managed to paralyze a sun bear that entered the agricultural land of residents in Jorong Bukik Gombak, Nagari Baringin, Lima Kaum District using anesthetic shots.
The process of catching protected wildlife has been dramatic and has taken about six hours since it was first reported by residents at around 06.15 WIB.
The arrest process was also assisted by personnel from the National Police and the community.
Head of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Division of the Tanah Datar Agriculture Service, Roki Marta Rika, said the evacuation was carried out after his party received information from the West Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) and was asked to assist in the arrest process.
"We were informed by the BKSDA that there were reports of bears entering the residents' agricultural land in Jorong Bugik Gombak and we were asked to help evacuate this bear," said Roki as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 18.
He said that although his party was involved in the evacuation process, the full responsibility for the animal was under the authority of the BKSDA.
After the wildlife is paralyzed, the bear will be handed over to the West Sumatra BKSDA for observation.
"After this, we will conduct a general check-up at the BKSDA to find out about his health condition. If we need treatment, we will carry out treatment," he said.

He said the bear most likely fell to the residents' land due to several factors.
Among them could be because their habitat is disrupted, such as due to forest and land fires or because of difficulties in finding food in nature.
"It is very likely because of the forest and land fires or the food in the forest that has run out, so he went down to find food," he said.
