Libya War Crime Suspect Arrested In Germany On ICC Order

JAKARTA German authorities have arrested a suspect in a Libyan war crime that allegedly tortured and sexually abused inmates while serving as senior prison officials.

Khaled Mohamed Ali Al Hishri was arrested on Wednesday, German authorities said.

As reported by Reuters on Friday, July 18, the International Criminal Court (ICC) said Khaled Al Hishri would remain under German authority, pending completion of the national legal process.

He was accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, and rape, from February 2015 to early 2020.

The ICC has been investigating alleged serious crimes committed in Libya since the country's civil war in 2011.
