Dere Turns Puspa Song Into Visual Work With Popomangun

JAKARTA - Theresia Margaretha Gultom, better known as Dere, introduced a new concept to celebrate her second album, "Funge", which was released last April. The final track of the album, Puspa, comes through a visual work entitled Puspa Oh Puspa!.

This project is the result of Dere's collaboration with visual artists Popomangun. Both combine musical and visual power as medium of expression and celebration of love.

Nasrul Akbar, representing Tiga Dua Satu'label musik Dere' as well as the figure who led the project, said the collaboration with Popomangun was aimed at bringing the 23-year-old singer-writers to life.

"We want this work to live with the listeners, not just one form because love is also growing and developing, like puspa which blooms in the right time and place," said Nasrul Akbar at the inauguration of Puspa Oh Puspa! at Urban Forest Cipete, South Jakarta, Thursday, July 17.

Dere himself said that Puspa is one of his most personal works. This song was written based on the feelings he had experienced.

"I wrote this song while trying to fall in love again. I'm very happy to see this work continue in a visual form that is very alive by Kak Popo. Just like the falling in love that I love," said Dere.

Meanwhile, Popomangun sees this project as a breakthrough. This is the first time he has based his visual works on a song.

"I responded to Dere's songs and stories intuitively, absorbed the tone, captured his aura, and translated his courage in colors and shapes that represent a layer of human feelings," Popomangun said.

The result of Dere's collaboration with Popomangun, Puspa Oh Puspa!, is planned to be carried around from Jakarta to Yogyakarta to Bandung with various unique formats that encourage more personal interaction between works and audiences.

"We hope that Puspa Oh Puspa! can be a new space to convey stories multidimensionally and the public can also be part of this narrative," concluded Bintang, Project Manager of Mahavisual.
