Notary Of Husband Killer For Claims Of Insurance Policy Sentenced To 18 Years In Prison

The panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang (58) to 18 years in prison, for being proven to have committed premeditated murder of her husband Rusman Maralen Situngkir.

"The defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang was sentenced to 18 years in prison," said Chief Judge Eti Astuti at the Medan District Court, Thursday, July 17, as reported by ANTARA.

The panel of judges stated that the defendant Tiromsi's actions were proven to have violated Article 340 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.

"From the facts of the trial revealed, it is believed that the defendant has been proven to have committed a criminal act of premeditated murder as the first indictment," he explained.

As for the aggravating thing, the defendant Tiromsi did because he had killed the victim Rusman who was also the defendant's husband.

Then, the defendant Tiromsi's actions disturbed the public and drew public attention, did not admit his actions, thus hampering the law enforcement process.

"Meanwhile, mitigating factors, the defendant became the backbone of the family and was elderly," said Judge Eti Astuti.

After reading the verdict, Chief Judge Eti Astuti gave the defendant Tiromsi and the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Medan Kejari to state their position on the verdict.

"The defendant and the public prosecutor were given seven days to state their position, whether to appeal or accept this verdict," said Judge Eti Astuti.

The verdict was much lighter than the demands of the Medan Prosecutor's Office, Risnawati Ginting, previously requested that the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang be sentenced to death.

"Requesting that the panel of judges impose a sentence on the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang with the death penalty," said Public Prosecutor Risnawati Ginting when reading the indictment at the Medan District Court, Tuesday (8/7).

The prosecutor said that the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang's actions were proven to have violated Article 340 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.

"The defendant's actions together with Goppa Sihotang (DPO) are considered proven to have committed premeditated murder of the victim Rusman Maralen Situngkir," explained Risnawati.

Regarding this case, Public Prosecutor Risnawati Ginting in her indictment stated that the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang together with Gilbert Sihotang (DPO) allegedly planned the murder of her husband Rusman Maralen Situngkir since February 2024.

"Before committing the murder, the defendant secretly registered her husband as a life insurance policy holder at PT Prudential Life Assurance with a claim value of IDR 500 million," said Public Prosecutor Risnawati.

As a requirement, the prosecutor continued, the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang asked his son to take a photo of the victim Rusman Maralen Situngkir while holding an ID card.

On February 23, 2024, the victim Rusman Maralen Situngkir was asked to undergo a medical examination at the Prodia Laboratory to speed up the process of validating insurance claims.

"The victim was finally found dead in a suspicious condition at their home on Jalan Gaperta Medan on Saturday, March 22, 2024," he explained.

Initially, the defendant Tiromsi Sitanggang claimed that the victim Rusman Maralen Situngkir had died as a result of a traffic accident.

However, the family did not immediately believe it, and reported the incident to the Medan Helvetia Police and it was recommended that the victim Rusman Maralen Situngkir be post-mortem and autopsied.

"From the results of the police investigation and autopsy, it shows signs of violence and wounds caused by blunt objects on the victim's head," said Public Prosecutor Risnawati.
