WHO Calls For More Countries To Receive Patients From The Gaza Strip
JAKARTA - The World Health Organization (WHO) calls on more countries to accept and treat patients from the Gaza Strip, following the medical evacuation of a group of patients, mostly children, to Jordan.
"The World Health Organization oversees the medical evacuation of 35 patients, mostly children, from Gaza to Jordan, accompanied by 72 family members," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on social media X, launching WAFA July 17.
"We thank the Jordanian Government for its support and provision of sustainable special care for critically ill patients," he added.
"More than 10,000 people in Gaza still need medical evacuation," Tedros continued.
"We urge more countries to accept patients for medical evacuation - their lives depend on them. Too many are waiting."
The organization further calls for the expansion of the medical corridor, including the resumption of traditional referral routes to hospitals in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which existed before the war.
He added that with the current evacuation rate, it will take years to evacuate all patients in the Gaza Strip who need treatment.

The World Health Organization stated that airstrikes and shortages of medical, food, water and fuel supplies in Gaza have "almost depleted" a health care system that is already resource-deficient, with many hospitals not operating and other facilities barely functioning.
