Malaysia Launches IKSN Involving 31 Institutions, Becomes The Security Land For Border Areas

JAKARTA - Malaysia officially launched the National Border Security Index (IKSN), which is a new benchmark for assessing the security level of the neighboring country border area.

Citing Bernama, the Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced the immediate presence of the initiative on Wednesday, July 16.

He said IKSN was developed by the Malaysian Public Security Institute (IPSOM) in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).

This index provides data-based evaluation of the performance, effectiveness, and readiness of border law enforcement agencies.

Saifuddin highlighted his uniqueness, stating, "What makes this index unique is that he uses credible data from 31 institutions responsible for border security, not just police and immigration."

The system operates on a centralized Cloud platform, which allows institutions to submit data twice a year based on 58 specific indicators.

The aggregate data is the basis for the IKSN annual assessment.

This index uses a five-level assessment scale, with 0.0 1.0 showing "Very Safe" and 4.1 5.0 classified as "Unsafe."

A total of 12 cross-border threats have been identified, including illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling.

Penculikan untuk tebusan dan pengambang laut saat ini mendapat skor 0,00, menunjukkan keamanan yang sangat tinggi, sementara penyelukan senjata api berada di 0,22, masih dalam rentang Saya Aman, tutur

Saifuddin.

He explained that IKSN will assist in strategic decisions for the mobilization of resources, identification of risk zones, and budget justification.

"With reliable data, we can determine where to place our resources, what workforce is needed, and which institutions should be assigned," he concluded.
