Inspirational Travel Qory Sandioriva, Wins Puteri Indonesia To Fight Against Autoimmune Disease

JAKARTA - Qory Sandioriva shared his life story for the last 17 years, since he won the Puteri Indonesia 2009 event. Qory admitted that many joys and sorrows occurred during the event and managed to become champions.

Not only that, Qory also talked about himself being diagnosed with autoimmune disease, shortly after becoming the champion of Puteri Indonesia 2009. The following is the full inspirational story of Qory Sandioriva that can be seen.

1. Controversy follows Puteri Indonesia 2009 and wins

Qory Sandioriva said that since childhood she was a tomboy woman who inundated in pencak silat sports. Then his parents put Qory in a female school, until finally attending the 2009 Puteri Indonesia event representing the then Province of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

Qory's victory at the event was a surprise for him because at that time he was involved in controversy about not wearing the hijab even though he came from Aceh. However, Qory admitted that he could not deceive himself about his faith, so he still tried to give his best in the midst of controversy.

"When I won Puteri Indonesia, I was also surprised, especially when I represented Aceh, where I didn't want to lie to myself about my faith and how I behaved and behaved," said Qory Sandioriva while visiting VOI's office, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.

"I didn't wear the hijab, and it turned out to win, even though at that time I was hit by many issues and controversies about the hijab," he added.

2. Diagnosed with autoimmune before following Miss Universe

Then as the winner of Puteri Indonesia 2009, Qory became Indonesia's representative to take part in the Miss Universe 2010 event. However, in the midst of his busy life, Qory at that time fainted and fell into a coma, until finally he was diagnosed with autoimmune.

"I am 17 years old, currently serving as Puteri Indonesia and will go to Miss Universe, it just found out that I am a lupus autoimmune and Sjogren's Syndrome," he said.

After undergoing an examination, the autoimmune disease turned out to have been suffered by Qory since he was 16 years old, precisely since he was no longer active in practicing pencak silat. After being diagnosed, he finally underwent a series of treatments and was devastated.

Before leaving Miss Universe, of course, it was very hard because at that time there was no cure for lupus, and including a deadly disease," Qory said.

3. Autoimmune causes 13 Qory organs to be damaged

To deal with its autoimmune disease, Qory had to take steroid drugs for 7 years with a fairly high dose. This caused 13 Qory organs to be damaged.

I drank steroids for 7 years with a fairly high dose. That's where my 13 organs were damaged. Starting from the heart, kidneys, lungs, digestion too, brain nerves became a stroke, coma, blind eyes for a maximum of 2 days," he explained.

4. Has been undergoing treatment for 17 years and is still ongoing

However, Qory is still battling the autoimmune disease he is suffering from. He underwent treatment at a hospital in Indonesia and also treated to Korea.

With all the treatment he is undergoing, currently Qory's lupus condition is normal, as well as for the function of his heart and lungs.

Until now live it. But yesterday there was good news, my heart is good, my lungs are good, then my lupus is normal, I am happy. It's been completely controlled after 17 years," said Qory.

Not only physical treatment, Qory is also trying to strengthen his mentality in dealing with autoimmune diseases. He admitted that he was depressed, but still tried to face everything strongly and the support of those closest to him.

5. Become the Indonesian Autoimmune Ambassador and campaign for autoimmune

As one of the public figures fighting against autoimmune, Qory Sandioriva is now appointed as the Ambassador Autoimmune of the Republic of Indonesia. As the Indonesian Autoimmune Ambassador, Qory hopes to further educate and make people aware of the disease that can be experienced by anyone.

Not only that, Qory also hopes that screening and autoimmune treatment in Indonesia will be made easier, as well as related to the costs of the drugs. He admitted that to do all these things was not easy, but would continue to struggle so that autoimmune would be considered in the future.

"It's a tough task, but I have hope to go there. At least it can't save everything, at least the closest people in the community have already survived too," he said.

Several things were done by Qory as the Indonesian Autoimmune Ambassador, starting from creating communities for other autoimmune survivors, to making books.

"Making a book with autoimmune survivors, is still being made. I will also make my own book, make a biography hopefully it can be processed quickly," concluded Qory Sandiariva.
